While shopping for some empty gel caps one day in this store from out of town, I was abruptly stopped by a loud voice “bellowing” from the other end of the store. It was a pharmacist technician, you know, the little people who count pills all day and tell you it takes them an hour to count to 30. Anyway she asked if I needed any help, over the top of a customer whom she was already helping. And the tone she used was a bit condescending. So instead of approaching her counter (which would have been polite) I shouted back at her “No, I don’t need help.” Rudely the woman kept Eyeing me and when my patience had finally run out I said to her, as I approached her, “Do you folks sell “OO” sized vegetable gel caps?” With a puzzled and even more rude and condescending tone she replied, “gel caps? What are those?” I don’t have to tell you how ironic it was explaining to an individual trained in college to count and identify pharmaceutical controlled substances, what a gel cap is, so unexplained it to her. Finally, when my description sunk through her many layers of defense and she ran it by another technician and even the head Pharmacist (who also condescendingly just shook his head), she said again “We don’t sell those to the public.” As if I was asking her for a shake and bake kit used for making methamphetamine drugs at home. (Which I later found out she thought I was asking for ironically) I laughed at her and told her, it’s ok, I’m from out of town, they sell gel caps in other stores where I am from, it’s just a misunderstanding (I was still trying to be polite, but now they were thoroughly angry because I was smiling and laughing in the presence of their ‘superiority’). So, since the mood wasn’t getting any lighter I just turned my back and walked to the guy working the store register. I complained to him about the attitude of the folks in the pharmacy, and he apologized wholeheartedly, which wasn’t necessary, because I was really feeling sorry that he had to work with that bunch. Anyway, I’d steer clear of this place, the people are rude, and they think they have an obligation to suspect everyone is some sort of super-villain, it’s no wonder no one was in the store.
